As someone who does lots of OOO integration work, the issue of OOO 1.1 vs. 2.X is not really a big deal.
I have had the PT running with users side by side with OOO 2.X (started with 2.0.3, moved to 2.1 recently) and all of the users prefer the IBM PT. By far.
Yes, by branching at 1.1, IBM did not get some of the 2 features like the new mail merge and other stuff. But IBM has actually fixed more bugs in OOO than the core product has. They have also added a much better table engine in the Document PT than OOO has in 2. ODF support is heads better. And the UI work, including the sidebar properties window, which gets its inspiration from Office on the Macintosh, is a huge win for users.
Try them for a bit. You will see how successful they will be in the end.
